SITE CONTENT IS CURRENTLY BEING ADDED - PLEASE VISIT AGAIN NEXT WEEK - THANK YOU

Sorry that website updating has been taking a while due to core members coming and going, plus a lot of changes going on in Amble, so less time for online work due to researching and writing planning objections, etc - but hopefully this will ease and we can dedicate more time to everything else.

Amblers; please keep up the great work of cleaning our beaches and poop scooping the dunes. We all know this is an ongoing thing that's been happening for the past several years quietly in the background, but we all know how much it means to keep our beloved coast and dunes clean; so that's reward in itself! We've seen a few visitors joining in, which is awesome. Please take care picking the roadsides! There will be news later about disposing of large beach finds such as commercial fishing lobster/crab pots, which are a problem to shift.

Our Aims and Purpose

We want to develop our aims together with our members and in response to the wants and needs of our community and our natural environment. But we do have a few specific categories that are the purpose of Our Amble and everything we do as a group will fit into these:

1. Community - Our aim is to work together as a community to fulfil the wants and needs of our community that aren't otherwise being fulfilled by NCC, or by other groups and agencies. Specifically at the moment we're focusing on the provision of adult education classes and interest groups (such as birdwatching) and we want to involve fellow Amblers who have skills and knowledge they'd like to share with others, because we know there's a large pool of very talented people in Amble.

2. Natural Environment - Our aim is to work together to safeguard, preserve and protect Amble's natural environment and wildlife for posterity. Our natural heritage is under threat like never before and the danger is severe. Our Amble has been researching, documenting and photographing our environment since 2013 and the deterioration is saddening and escalating. The primary reasons being the rise in people numbers and that NCC has so far demonstrated a clear lack of care. Worsening weather on the coast is also a contributor. Our Amble is making links with relevant influential and expert people. We'll begin gradually publishing on this website the material we've created. We need people to join who are keen about nature and/or wildlife; especially those who want to actively participate in projects and campaigns, etc,. for the benefit of our local habitats.

3. Our Heritage - Amble is so rich in heritage that stretches back at least to the Middle Stone Age (Mesolithic). Our Amble has been doing a large amount of research into our local heritage and will begin publishing on this website soon. We want our community to know about the long heritage of this place we live in so you can be proud of it and help look after it. Our Amble is also compiling information about our environmental history; this is the way people and nature have interacted across time, because our locality has been continuously changing for thousands of years depending on how we and/or the environment have worked together or clashed. Our Amble has a BIG aim and it is to create a museum with heritage and ecology centre in our town - it's long overdue. Things like this are vitally important for us and for a great many others. If you're into our local history and heritage and want to get involved with writing material, educating, or fundraising, etc., please get in touch.

Our Amble is not about promoting Amble as a generic mass market tourist destination, nor are we about attracting unnecessary development, nor about marketing Amble to business in order to generate revenue for NCC and its partners. Our Amble is about the three purposes outlined above, because Amble is our heart and it flows through our veins. Tourism and business and development are the concern of NCC, Amble Town Council and especially Amble Development Trust - so if that's your interest then Our Amble is not what you're looking for and you need to contact those three instead. However, if you want something other than that and you're interested in community, nature and/or heritage, please join Our Amble and together we'll get things done that benefit residents and that benefit posterity.

Join Our Amble

Until June 2019 there is no membership fee to join Our Amble - after then we'll be asking people in full-time employment to donate £5.00 for a year's membership and that everyone else pays what they can afford, or nothing if they can't. This will help pay for basic running costs like the website and stationary.

Any adult resident of Amble and its bordering parishes can join Our Amble. Groups and organisations that wish to support us, or affiliate with us are welcome to get in touch to discuss it and there is no fee for that. Visitors and people further afield are welcome to show their interest by supporting Our Amble with a donation, but because the whole ethos of our group is about our community only residents can become members - though anyone can buy badges and merchandise. We're thinking about adding an associate membership for virtual residents of the Links caravan site; i.e. those who live there most/all of the time, or who stay on the site every weekend and take a keen interest in Amble, the dunes and our heritage - if you're on the caravan site and would like to join as an associate member, please get in touch.

After June 2019 all new members will get an 'Amble Heart' badge and membership card. These will also be sent as a gift to existing members who joined free before June 2019.

If you want to join today so that you can participate in our activities, or make suggestions, or have your say about Amble, or join in the running of Our Amble, please submit the form below with your details and we'll send you an info pack. If the form doesn't work, or you don't want to use it, then send an email with your full name and address to: OurAmble @ mail.com - please input manually as this isn't a link and don't send any attachment. Thanks.
